Precision When Filler Needs a Second Look
Hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers are designed to enhance facial volume, contour, and balance, but there are times when filler may need to be reduced or dissolved. At Aliʻi Nani Aesthetic Medicine, we offer clinical evaluation and hyaluronidase-assisted filler reversal for appropriate HA fillers.
Filler reversal may be considered for concerns such as persistent swelling, unwanted volume, asymmetry, migration, irregular contour, palpable filler, or an aesthetic result that no longer suits the patient.
Hyaluronidase Filler Dissolution
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme used to break down hyaluronic acid. When clinically appropriate, it can be injected into areas containing HA filler to help reduce or dissolve the product.
Not every concern requires complete dissolution. Depending on the assessment, treatment may involve targeted correction, partial dissolution, or more extensive reversal. Some patients may require more than one treatment session.
Ultrasound-Assisted Evaluation & Reversal
In selected or more complex cases, ultrasound may be incorporated into the evaluation and treatment process.
Ultrasound can provide real-time visualization beneath the skin and may help identify the location and distribution of previously placed filler and surrounding anatomy. When appropriate, this information can be used to guide more targeted treatment.
Ultrasound may be particularly useful when the filler is difficult to localize clinically, the patient has had multiple previous treatments, the original product or placement is uncertain, or previous dissolution has not fully resolved the concern.
Previously Injected Somewhere Else?
We also evaluate patients who received their original filler treatment at another practice. A consultation is required to review your treatment history, examine the area, and determine whether filler reversal is appropriate.
If available, please provide the name of the filler, date of treatment, areas injected, amount used, and records from your previous injector.
Important to Know
Hyaluronidase works on hyaluronic acid fillers and does not dissolve all types of injectable fillers or biostimulators. Ultrasound is used when clinically indicated and is not required for every filler reversal.
